Black Rain

1984: While attending WVU, I noticed significant similarities between many punk and bluegrass songs:

A) They use the same 3 or 4 chords,
B) They have lots of up-tempo bits, and...
C) They are either about bad relationships or political protest.

This song was the inevitable result of that insight.

Lyrics

The black rain started falling, falling
In the last week of July
The second time that month that death
Had fallen, fallen from the sky
The sun was red as blood
When you could see it through the dust
And we'll never know if it's because of
Vengance, pride or lust

Black rain falling down, down, down
Black rain falling down, down, down
The world keeps turning round, round, round
Black rain falling down, down, down

The bombs, well they had Washington,
Peking and Moscow in their sights
We never thought about it much
Out here beyond the city lights
We should have listened to the few
And all the things they said
Now they say the ones that's lucky
Is the ones already dead

Black rain falling down, down, down
Black rain falling down, down, down
The world keeps turning round, round, round
Black rain falling down, down, down

Now even though it's just October
It's already ten below
Spring will never bloom again
From underneath this dirty snow
The sun's still red as blood
When you can see it through the dust
And we'll never know if it's because of
Vengance, pride or lust

Black rain falling down, down, down
Black rain falling down, down, down
The world keeps turning round, round, round
Black rain falling down, down, down

Black rain falling down, down, down
Black rain falling down, down, down
The world keeps turning round, round, round
Black rain falling down, down, down

Black rain falling down, down, down
Black rain falling down, down, down
The world keeps turning round, round, round
Black rain falling down, down, down
